Mermaid Birthday Party!

This year, my daughter wanted a Mermaid Birthday Party. So I was decided on throwing a swimming birthday party for her at the local YMCA swimming pool. Till few days before the party, when I wanted to book the pool, I came to know that the party slot was only late in the evening, which didn't work for us. So had to come up with other option. I ended up having the party at home, but had to incorporate some water mermaid related games and activities.

It was fun planning and kids had more fun with all the activities especially the water games.

Let me start with the decor and food. I had the blue and green theme with a splash of purple here and there. I had all the food items set on the island. In the base of the island, I twisted and pasted some green crepe paper to make weeds and some fish swimming. I thought it kind of set the theme.

For snacks/food, I had oyster cookies, which I made using applying frosting on one of the cookies, then putting a white pearl candy and topping with another cookie.

Flounder cupcakes, which were chocolate cupcakes and yellow frosting and with made flounder using yellow and blue m&ms. There are other cupcakes with blue frosting and topping it with goldfish and some small pearl candy to make bubbles.

Drift wood, which were chocolate covered pretzels.

There was also beach and wave, which was blue jello and put some crushed graham crackers for sand. Waves were ruffle potato chips.

For main course we obviously had pizza, because everybody loves pizza. I also had croissant sandwich. If you remember from the Ariel story, Sebastian was a crab, so picked up croissant, which looks like crab anyways, to make sandwich and added olives in the toothpick for eyes.

I also had sea shell pasta, of which I don't have any pictures.

Also from the Ariel story is the word dinglehoppers, which Ariel refers to the fork. I have to say, I love the word dinglehoppers..:)

And to wash all the food down, was the sea water, which was the fruit punch.

For activities, kids got to decorate their own treasure chest, which they each got to take home.

They also got to make some dolphin sand art neklaces

And hunt for treasures using the fishing rod. I made the fishing rod, by tying a rope to one end of the wooden dowel and then attaching a magnet to the end of the rope. I filled a kiddie pool with water and put some trinklets and small toys. Each toy had a paper clip attached to it and the kids had to use the fishing rod to lift up those tiny toys.

At the end of the party we had a pinata and also a water balloon fight, which was super fun for the kids.

All in all my daughter had a great time with all her friends.
